Hi, I have one particular USB HDD that is not being 'seen' by W8.1. It is a Storex CLUB Pocket-Disk (AKA Swinife) that works quite happily on Win7 machines. Win8.1 behaves normally with all other USB HDD drives that I have tried. It does not appear as a yellow flagged USB divice and also does not appear in Disk Manager in any shape or form (unreconised/blank drive etc.) Therefore, I can't choose a problem drive form the lists to uninstall/reinstall, update driver etc.

I have tried removing ALL other USB devices and plugging this one in alone but no joy. I have tried uninstalling ALL USB devices and connecting just this one, still no joy. I cannot find exactly this problem anywhere else on the net.

Any ideas that do not include what I've already tried above would be greatly appreciated. Hi, This could be compatibility issue with Windows 8.1 and HDD. As this HDD is ‘‘Plug and Play’’, neither need any driver, nor any specific software (reference ), I would suggest you to install latest Windows Updates including optional updates and check if it makes any difference. See I would also suggest you to visit computer manufacturer website and install latest chipset drivers and check.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need further assistance, please post back. We will be glad to help you. Regards, Anil. Hi, Thanks for the reply. All windows updates done, now including optional ones. Chipset has the latest driver already.

Counter Strike 1.6 For Mac Os X. After restart the Device manager recognised the drive as 'USB Mass storage device', Disk Manager had no new entry. Drive was not accessable nor appeared in 'This PC'. I tried update driver but Win said I had the correct one.

I then tried uninstal and restart, from this point Win8.1 has not been able to do anything with this drive again and I no longer see the 'USB Mass storage device' appear in device manager. I do now receive a notification of 'Solve a problem Cygwin' which sends me to the RedHat site. I assume this is just coincidence as it deals with Linux shell enviroment? Disabling the Enhanced Power Management may help in getting the issue resolved. Perform the steps suggested by Eliyas Yakub [MSFT] from the link mentioned below and see if it helps. We’ll be glad to assist you further. I've had exactly this problem too. I have two different solutions that worked on different PCs but not when tried the reverse way around.

1) Don't use a front USB port, the rear ones seem to work better. (reagrdless of USB v2 or v3) 2) For some reason splitting out the power feed for the USB worked. DIY or buy a gizmo that allows you to interupt the power coming from the PCs USB socket, this power is replaced by a plug pack feeding a regulated power supply that gives a stable 5v with 2A current available. The DATA feed passes through uniterupted. Why is it that the Microsoft Support Engineers, generally speaking, seem to have the least oppropriate responses of little help?
